All the teams for Round 9 in the rebel VFLW.

DAREBIN champion Nicole Callinan will make a surprise return to the Falcons as they look to follow up last week’s drought-breaking rebel VFLW victory over Carlton with a tough test against ladder-leader Box Hill Hawks at Fenjiu Stadium on Sunday.

Callinan, 41, starred for the Falcons in 2022 but spent last year on Carlton’s list and the first half of this year as a Western Bulldog through her AFLW assistant coaching roles without playing a game.

The Hawks have left out AFLW stars Tilly Lucas-Rodd, Sophie Locke and Laura Elliott, while last week’s four Eastern Ranges debutants have returned to the Coates Talent League club as Nadia von Bertouch, Liv Barber and Jess Cox head an addition list that also includes Emma Robins for her first game with the club after two as a Port Melbourne top-up last year.

Richmond AFLW star Gabby Seymour will play her first VFLW game since 2021 when Port Melbourne takes on Southern Saints at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday.

Seymour, who has played every AFLW game for the Tigers since arriving at the club four years ago, will be a key inclusion for the reigning premiers, who have had Richmond youngster Charli Wicksteed withdrawn and again lost Lambert-Pearce medallist Jordan Mifsud to a recurrence of her quad injury, Bella Stutt to a shoulder problem and Jessie Williams to illness.

Georgie Pruden and Abigail Rabot will make their debuts for Port against a Saints’ team desperate to break a six-match losing streak to keep their fading finals hopes alive.

St Kilda has withdrawn Caitlin Matthews and Georgia Ricardo has failed a fitness test on a calf twinge, but the biggest blow is to young ruck Maddison Torpey, who will miss eight weeks with a knee injury, meaning they will need to make deep run into the finals to see her in action again this year.

Deanna Jolliffe is the big inclusion for the Saints alongside Mel Bertuna, Kiara Henry and Flick Crank.

It’s over to the next generation of talent as the AFLW clubs turn their focus to getting their players ready for the approaching season as the superstars take their leave from the rebel VFLW.

The chances for future stars to stake their claims won’t be more evident than at Victoria Park on Saturday, with Collingwood and Western Bulldogs resting 14 AFLW-listed players between them, including Bulldogs superstar Ellie Blackburn, who has led her team to three impressive victories in a row.

Nine are missing from the Magpies, with Jordan Ivey, Marnie Jarvis, Sachi Degiacomi, Ava Campbell and Lilly Pearce among the inclusions, while Marlo Cockerill, Sophie McIntosh and Olivia Smith will debut.

The Bulldogs have five key names stepping away, but plenty of experience returning in VFLW games record holder Mia-Rae Clifford, plus Eleanor Cornish and Mali McLeod among others.

Geelong forward Olivia Cicolini has been ruled out for the season after injuring her ACL in last week’s 100th VFLW game for the club that turned into a horror loss to Collingwood.

The Cats made eight changes for their tough trip to Casey Fields, with AFLW trio Chantel Mason, Bryde O’Rourke and Bella Smith withdrawn and Zoe Cowan and Lily Jordan injured.

Former WNBL basketballer Alex Tresize will make her VFLW debut at the age of 37 alongside teenager trio Lillie Barendsen, Bridie Collings and Kate Martin. Poppy Schaap and Jarmila Cranny are also among the inclusions for the visitors.

Melbourne has pulled two of its players, with Ryleigh Wotherspoon and Grace Hill out alongside Olivia Morris, who has a quad injury, but Casey’s inclusions are impressive, with Sophie Casey back from suspension, Sarah D’Arcy from a surgical procedure and India Lehman from shin splints as Jess Pacevski makes her debut.

Carlton has named three debutants for its clash with Williamstown at DSV Stadium on Saturday morning, with former Murray Bushrangers player Paige Duffy breaking through after good form for St Kevin’s while Bendigo Pioneers pair Alexis Gregor and Jemmika Douglas will get a taste of senior footy as Issy Parnell misses with a foot injury.

The Seagulls made just one change, with Zoe Day overcoming a hamstring injury.

There are also three Bendigo Pioneers debutants at Essendon for its game against North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval, with Lavinia Cox, Gabrielle Drage and Sienna Hobbs getting their opportunity after the withdrawal of AFLW trio Alex Morcom, Ellyse Gamble and Matilda Dyke, while Bailey Hunt is in concussion protocols and Ava Jordan is unwell.

The Kangaroos lose Brooke Slaney and Abbey Hoiberg-Cox to injury and Kayla Peake is unavailable, with Paige Ryan among the inclusions for her first game of the year.

All matches in the 2024 rebel VFLW season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.
