LACHIE Neale is yet to start contract talks with Fremantle as he focuses on making a strong start to the 2016 season.

Neale is set to come out of contract at the end of the year, but has told the Dockers he doesn't want to start negotiations until he has completed at least the opening stretch of the home and away season.

Although the Glenelg product would be a highly attractive target for rival clubs, it's believed he has no desire to field opposition interest at the moment.

And when Neale is ready to start talking about his football future – he has no firm date in mind – AFL.com.au understands Fremantle will be his first port of call.

Neale has been a key member of the Dockers' on-ball division since his breakthrough 2014 season.

Last year, he was Freo's leading possession winner, averaging 27.4 possessions a game to finish sixth in the club best and fairest award.

He has also opened 2016 in good form despite the Dockers' shaky start to season, averaging nearly 30 possessions in the losses to the Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast.

Fremantle recruited Neale with pick No.58 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.
