GREATER Western Sydney will return to what it views as a happy hunting ground to kick off a tough set of assignments as the race for finals spots goes down to the wire.

Stung by a loss to city rivals Sydney last week, the eighth-placed Giants face Port Adelaide (away), Essendon (home) and Carlton (away) in a three-match stretch that will decide their finals fate.

They will be without suspended duo Toby Bedford and Brent Daniels at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, with coach Adam Kingsley considering a shake-up of his forward mix in the pair's absence.

That could mean a recall for No.1 draft pick Aaron Cadman, while midfielder Finn Callaghan faces a test on his tight calf later this week.

Kingsley has acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead but believes GWS can prove its worth as a top-eight contender by fighting through the final three weeks of the home and away season.

"That's our attitude," Kingsley told reporters on Wednesday.

"It's a tough game at Adelaide Oval against a top-four team, albeit (Port Adelaide) haven't been at their absolute best for the last month.

"They're still no doubt very capable, as we've seen across the season.

"Then it's two teams vying for top-eight positions against us to finish the season.

"It's a challenging finish but if we're good enough we'll make it."

GWS has won on six of its past nine trips to Adelaide Oval and was good value for its come-from-behind triumph over the Crows on the most recent visit last month.

"It feels like it's a bit of a happy hunting ground for us," Kingsley said.

"Prior to my start here the record was still quite good over in Adelaide.

"Our guys enjoy getting over there and it's a lovely ground to play at, so we're looking forward to that challenge."

Cadman has made a dozen AFL appearances in his debut season but was substituted out of two of the previous three matches before being dropped last week.

The 19-year-old key forward responded well in the VFL, kicking 3.3 from 11 disposals in the reserves' heavy defeat to Sydney.

"We'll see how that forward line unfolds and what we're happy with in the mix up there but he kicked three, missed a couple and gave a couple off," Kingsley said.

"It could've been a six- or seven-goal game from him. It was a really impressive one; arguably his best VFL game for the season.

"It's been a really good start to his career and we're really happy with how he's progressed. He'll certainly be in the mix this week."
