We look at who's hot and who's not heading into this weekend's games
North Melbourne v Hawthorn
HOT: North ruckman Todd Goldstein averages 13.7 player ratings points against Hawthorn – the second-best at the club behind Daniel Wells. Hawks midfielder Isaac Smith had a career-best 25.4 player ratings points last week against Gold Coast.
COLD: Roos veteran Nick Dal Santo averages 9.6 player ratings points against Hawthorn – his lowest against any side. Hawthorn ruckman David Hale has slipped 56 positions since the start of the season.
Richmond v Brisbane Lions
HOT: Tigers midfielder Dustin Martin has averaged 18.1 player ratings points in his past six games against Brisbane. His average against all other clubs is 12.4 points. Tom Rockliff has hit a career-high placing of 29th on the ratings table.) He was 63rd at the start of the season.
COLD: Bachar Houli had Richmond’s sixth-lowest score against St Kilda. He has dropped 11 places since the start of the year. Lions defender Daniel Merrett has fallen from 153rd to 272nd this season.
Greater Western Sydney v Adelaide
HOT: Giants co-captain Callan Ward averages 15 player ratings points against Adelaide – the best return of any Greater Western Sydney player. Crows dynamo Patrick Dangerfield has averaged 27 disposals and kicked nine goals in four games against the Giants.
COLD: GWS little man Devon Smith is goalless in three games against the Crows. He has 45 goals in 47 games against all other clubs. Brodie Smith was Adelaide’s lowest-scoring player in the Showdown last weekend.
Gold Coast v Collingwood
HOT: Suns defender Rory Thompson has played on Travis Cloke in his past two games against Collingwood, conceding one goal each time and averaging 11.5 spoils. Pies utility Tyson Goldsack averages 14.4 player ratings points against Gold Coast – the second-most at the club behind Scott Pendlebury.
COLD: Gold Coast midfielder Michael Rischitelli had just seven touches last time he played Collingwood. Although his form has picked up in recent weeks, Collingwood forward Travis Cloke continued to fall down the ratings table. He slipped 24 places after last weekend.
Port Adelaide v Essendon
HOT: Port forward Robbie Gray has kicked 11 goals in his past three games against Essendon. He averages 1.2 goals per game against other clubs. Bombers midfielder David Zaharakis was best on ground last time the clubs met, tallying 27 disposals and two goals.
COLD: Matthew Broadbent is one of only two Port Adelaide players who have played 13 or more games this season but have dropped down the overall standings. Cale Hooker was Essendon’s lowest scoring player against Geelong last weekend.
Melbourne v Fremantle
HOT: Lynden Dunn has had the biggest rise of any Melbourne player this season – from 205th to 105th. Recently re-signed Docker David Mundy is Fremantle’s best-performer against Melbourne, averaging 14.6 player ratings points.
COLD: Demons defender Colin Garland has dropped 49 places this season – the biggest drop at the club. Freo forward Chris Mayne has dropped 43 places this season.
Carlton v St Kilda
HOT: Blues midfielder Kade Simpson had 36 disposals last time the two clubs met. Shane Savage was St Kilda’s highest scoring player last week with 26 disposals at 81 per cent efficiency.
COLD: Saints onballer Jack Steven ranks 88th overall for average points per game this season. Carlton ruckman Robert Warnock was in Carlton’s top eight players in six of eight games before the bye. Since then he has been in the top eight once in six games.
West Coast Eagles v Sydney Swans
HOT: Eagles forward Josh Kennedy was best on ground last time the two clubs met with four goals and three score assists. Swans defender Nick Malceski leads the competition for metres gained and sits at a career-high 34th on the ratings table.
COLD: Swans midfielder Jarrad McVeigh averages just 7.8 player ratings points against the Eagles – his lowest return against any team. Eagles backman Shannon Hurn has dropped 42 places since the start of the year – the largest fall at the club.
Geelong v Western Bulldogs
HOT: Cats forward Tom Hawkins kicked seven goals and contributed four score assists last time he played the Bulldogs back in 2012. Dogs midfielder Shaun Higgins has kicked six goals in his past three matches against the Cats.
COLD: Geelong defender Harry Taylor is 98th for total player ratings points scored this season. Despite a great performance last weekend, Bulldogs veteran Matthew Boyd has fallen from 31st to 58th since round eight.
