WITH big brother Brendon having walked him through what to expect, it's little surprise Callum Ah Chee appeared the picture of relaxation a day out from Tuesday's NAB AFL Draft.
Brendon took a huge step forward in his development this year for Port Adelaide, breaking through for his senior debut and finishing the year with 11 games, including a best on ground performance.
It had been a long and frustrating build up to his AFL debut, with injuries holding him back considerably since he was drfted in 2011.
Last summer was the first time he had completed a full pre-season.
But the 21-year-old's misfortune has been his 18-year-old brother's gain.
Callum, who AFL.com.au's draft expert Callum Twomey tips will join Gold Coast on Tuesday at pick No.7, knows how unforgiving the game can be, regardless of how much potential you may show.
"He's in the system and he's been through exactly the same thing so it's good to have him there as a mentor and he's obviously told me what to expect," Callum said.
"I've seen it first hand – [Brendon's] had a pretty inconsistent career due to injuries and things like that.
"He's told me it's been hard, and it's hard work and you can't expect things to come easy.
"That's probably the main thing.
"He's basically told me everything that I need to expect and he's kind of made it a bit more real for me."
Surprisingly, while Ah Chee exuded an almost zen-like calm, Matthew Kennedy was far more nervous despite it being considered a formality that he will join Greater Western Sydney.
The Giants have told their academy prospect that they would like him on their list, but given the new bidding system that will be introduced on Tuesday, Kennedy could technically end up anywhere.
An uncertain future has Kennedy jittery. He's looking forward to the draft but just wants to know where he'll be playing football next year.
"They've (the Giants) obviously said they're keen but they can't give me a definite yes or no," Kennedy said.
"I'm pretty nervous to be honest, even though people think I am going to go to the Giants but I honestly don't know.
"It's scary – good nerves and bad nerves I guess.
"I'm excited but nervous at the same time."
