A number of Lions players will be out to prove their leadership credentials in the coming weeks with positions currently available in the Club’s official Leadership Group.

Veteran superstars Simon Black and Luke Power last week stood down from the Lions’ Leadership Group to provide their potential successors with an opportunity to take greater ownership and responsibility for the team.

Black and Power will remain key leaders and mentors within the Club, but without the official title.

Jonathan Brown will commence his third season as sole skipper while Daniel Merrett and Jed Adcock remain as members of the Club’s Leadership Group.

Senior Coach Michael Voss believes it’s critical for the Club to start developing its next crop of leaders.

“Over the past few months we have been able to transition some of our leaders into mentoring roles which has created opportunities for others to test their own skills as potential leaders,” Voss said.

“Specifically Simon Black and Luke Power have started to guide those who have the potential to join the Leadership Group in their place.”

“What this will bring to the Club is more leaders within the team who can stand up and take greater ownership and responsibility.”

Jed Adcock believes the Club is in a fortunate position to have so many suitable candidates for such positions.

“I think there are plenty of players to choose from,” Adcock said.

“We’ve got a great bunch of young guys like Daniel Rich, Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff and Mitch Clark who are all capable and then there’s the older blokes like Josh Drummond, Joel Patfull and Brent Staker.”

“It really depends on which way the Club decides to go, but the next couple of weeks will say a lot about these roles.”
