ALTHOUGH thrilled that Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon has nominated Port Adelaide as his club of choice, Power skipper Travis Boak hopes the club can also hold onto Jay Schulz.
Schulz has been heavily linked to Fremantle this season and Dixon's now-public desire to be traded to Port only strengthens that connection.
The 30-year-old has struggled to maintain his best form this year, but booted four goals against the Dockers at the weekend in what could be his last appearance for the Power.
Boak will speak to Dixon in the coming weeks, adding he could "add a huge amount to our forward line".
He added the ball was in Schulz's court as to whether he remained at Alberton next season.
"It'd be great to have them both in the forward line," Boak said.
"We've (Boak and Schulz) spoken throughout the year and (I) told him that we'd love to have him and he's an important part of our group, and now it's really up to him."
It's been tough for Boak to watch the build-up for the AFL finals series knowing the Power blew their chance of being a part of it.
The club was expected to challenge for this year's premiership but inconsistent performance hijacked that plan; while they beat Hawthorn twice, the Power also lost to bottom-two sides Carlton and the Brisbane Lions.
The playing group and coach Ken Hinkley spoke after Saturday's 69-point win over the Dockers, with the coach and Boak urging the players to "let it burn".
"We spoke after the game … and the big thing was 'what did we learn from this year?'" he said.
"That's the big message … what did we actually learn? What didn't go right, what did go right and what do we need to take into next year?
"And then let it burn, let the feeling of not making the finals and that feeling of disappointment of the year really burn."
