It’s fast approaching two years since the great Matthew Richardson played his last game of league football for his beloved Richmond, but his popularity among the Tiger faithful clearly has not diminished one iota in that time.

Those who attended the Tigers’ 2011 Family Day at Highgate Recreation Reserve in Craigieburn yesterday (Sunday, February 13), could vouch for the fact that ‘Richo’, undeniably, remains a favorite son of the Yellow and Black masses.
The queues to meet Richo were as long as they ever were throughout his playing days. And, as is typical with the man himself, his great passion for the Tigers shone through during the Family Day festivities.

When one young lady offered to donate $50 to the Club’s Fighting Tiger Fund if she received a hug from Richo, he was more than happy to oblige, engulfing her in his arms.

It was all in a day’s “work” for Richo, who has a burning desire in his football retirement to do what he couldn’t (and certainly not through lack of trying!) achieve during his illustrious playing days - help bring sustained success to Richmond.

He is going to play a pivotal role in the Club driving the Fighting Tiger Fund - and he’ll do it in his own inimitable style.
