FREMANTLE is exploring the option to sign young Irishman Sean Hurley as an international rookie, with the 21-year-old to start a two-week trial with the club on Monday.

Hurley, who shapes as a key position prospect at 196cm, will train with the Dockers' first- to fourth-year players when they begin pre-season training.

He could be signed as a rookie under the international player rule by the December 13 deadline, allowing Fremantle to bypass the drafting period to secure him.

The Gaelic footballer, who hails from Kildare, trialled at last year's Draft Combine and was recommended as an AFL prospect by Sydney Swans premiership hero Tadhg Kennelly.

Fremantle head of player management Brad Lloyd flew to Ireland earlier this year to watch Hurley play his native game.

"He plays in a midfield role over in Ireland, and he’s highly skilled in the Gaelic game," Lloyd told fremantlefc.com.au.

"He's got good endurance for his size and he displays good leadership qualities.

"He was really eager to come out to Australia for a trial and we were keen to have him come over and see how he goes."
