TASMANIAN skipper John McKenzie has been awarded the 2011 HC Harrison Medal after a string of excellent performances at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

His win capped off a great carnival for the Tasmanians who took out the Division Two title with a 33-point win against Queensland in the final round at Skilled Stadium on Thursday.

McKenzie caught the eye with his hard-at-it approach and proved to be an prolific possession winner averaging 21 touches over his five games.

The Tassie captain was also named his state's most valuable player as were Jake Neade (Northern Territory), Fraser Thurlow (Queensland) and Jarrod Witts (NSW/ACT).

Witts only played three games during the carnival, but imposed his massive frame on the contest well enough in those appearances to claim the honour.

At 208cm and 107kg, Witts is an exciting prospect for Collingwood fans. The Pies signed him up through the now-defunct New South Wales scholarship scheme three years ago and he will join the club before next season.

He's not afraid to throw his bulk around and impressed in the NSW/ACT Rams' final round loss to the Northern Territory in the second match of the day at Skilled Stadium.

Witts took a courageous mark going back with the flight of the ball and split a pack wide open to mark and goal late in the entertaining encounter.

Led by energetic onballer Jake Neade, NT trailed by seven points at the final change, but edged in front with just minutes to go.

Harry Cunningham had a chance to pull off a miraculous win for the Rams in the thrilling finale to the championships, but his set shot from 55m out on the boundary fell short.
