Power star set to shun free agency and sign new three-year contract
PORT Adelaide is poised to take Robbie Gray off next year's free agency market, with the star midfielder set to sign a new three-year deal.
Gray could have explored free agency at the end of next season, along with the likes of Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield, Richmond captain Trent Cotchin and Geelong's Tom Hawkins.
But AFL.com.au understands Gray, 26, has agreed to terms on a new contract that will keep him at Alberton Oval to the end of 2018.
Gray enjoyed a career-best season in 2014, winning the Power's best and fairest award and the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.
The former Oakleigh Charger was also selected in the All Australian team after averaging 24.9 possessions a game in 2014 and kicking 42 goals.
He led the AFL for goal assists (33) and was fifth in the competition for clearances (145 at an average of 5.8 a game).
What will give Brisbane the edge when they meet their old foes, Adelaide, in a preliminary?
