DESPITE the rumours, Chris Tarrant has not wanted to leave Perth and is now enjoying being fully fit and to be playing good football again.
Tarrant came under considerable scrutiny early in the season after some quiet games and then with a mystery neck injury, but he enjoyed finding form with WAFL club East Perth.
With his body is feeling good again, Tarrant's form over the past month has been much better, and while he's happy to cop criticism when he's out of form, he draws the line when it turns to gossip on him wanting to leave the club.
"I found those rumours one of the more disappointing things for me," Tarrant said on Monday.
"I can 100 per cent say that I'm enjoying my time here. It's fair enough for people to talk about my football and form, but things like that which are totally untrue affect you."
Tarrant took his WAFL appearances as a positive, and says he's glad to have that tough start to the season behind him.
"I took going back to the WAFL on the chin and I used it as a learning thing. I was happy to go back and do my thing with East Perth after struggling early in the season, and I enjoyed myself back there while finding form," he said.
"It was a tough time, and one of the hardest things I've had to go through in my career. Because it's a two-team town, the pressure is on you more in Perth, and the best thing to do is to play footy to try to put it all aside. It's starting to turn around for me now, and it's much more enjoyable when you win and are playing good footy."
For much of the last few years, Tarrant has played with niggling injuries, but coming into 2008 he was feeling the best he has in a long time. That changed when he had a neck injury early on, but now he is back to full fitness and enjoying the associated improvement in his form.
"It's the best I've felt in two years," he says.
"In the past I've only been able to train once a week, but now I'm doing it at least twice and I'm going into games feeling good," he said.
"I did the whole pre-season for the first time in a couple of years, and coming into the season, my body was the best it has been. I had a neck injury that restricted me a little, (but) now I'm injury free, I'm getting up the ground more and enjoying my footy."
