CARLTON hopes scans will show midfielder Jarrod Garlett has escaped damage to the shoulder he injured in Wednesday night's win over St Kilda and will be available for the Blues' second JLT Community Series match next week.
Garlett, 21, was in a sling after the Blues' win after hurting his left shoulder while tackling Saints on-baller Jack Steven in the third quarter.
The Blues are yet to know the extent of his injury but believe preliminary signs are positive.
"He just landed heavily in tackle on that shoulder," head of football Andrew McKay told SEN on Thursday.
"It seems to be just bruised at the moment but he'll have a scan later on today and we'll have a look at it then.
"The physios are hopeful he'll be right for the Hawthorn game in 10 days' time."
Meanwhile, top draftee Jacob Weitering and rising star Sam Petrevski-Seton are also expected to play against the Hawks on March 10 despite missing Wednesday night's win.
Weitering "cricked" his neck in the lead up to the game but will "certainly" play next week as the Blues look to settle him in defence after injuries to teammates forced him forward at times last year.
Petrevski-Seton has quad soreness, which McKay said was caused by a training knock.
"He copped a whack earlier in the week in his quad and he's just stiff and sore," McKay said.
"Given it was our first hit-out, we thought let's put him on ice and save him for the game against Hawthorn in 10 days' time.
"He'll be fine and should be fine for that game against the Hawks down in Tassie."
Petrevski-Seton, who won Carlton's best first-year player award for his performance across 20 games in 2017, was sidelined for most of his first pre-season because of a quad strain.
