YOUNG utility Marco Paparone has signed a two-year contract extension with the Brisbane Lions.

The West Australian was taken at pick No.23 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and has played 45 career games, including all 22 last year.

With Paparone know to be close to his family, the contract is another huge win for the Lions as they continue to wage war on the retention front.

The 21-year-old will now be at the Gabba until at least the end of 2018.

"It’s very exciting," Paparone said.

"It’s a great opportunity to continue my footy here with this young group and hopefully we can build something."

Paparone is one of the best runners at the club and split his time between the wing and half-back last season.

He joins Stefan Martin, Pearce Hanley and Mitch Robinson as Lions to have all extended their contracts in the past month.
