MELBOURNE midfielder Jimmy Toumpas is not on the trade table, according to Demons assistant coach Simon Goodwin.
Speaking on FIVEaa on Thursday, Goodwin quashed rumours of trading the 20-year-old during the NAB AFL Trade Period.
Goodwin, who last month crossed from Essendon to join Melbourne as Paul Roos’ eventual successor, said Toumpas was an integral part of the club’s future.
"We see Jimmy having a really bright future," Goodwin said.
"He probably didn’t have his best year last year - he had a few little injuries here and there, but we think he’s going to have a bit of a breakout year (next season)."
Toumpas, who was selected with pick No. 4 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, managed just four games in 2014, battling form issues and a severe bout of appendicitis.
Goodwin said the club would make "six or seven changes" to its playing list for 2015. Key defender James Frawley is set to join Hawthorn while forward/ruck Mitch Clark is keen to reignite his career at Geelong.
Goodwin said Melbourne hoped to receive a high draft pick - possibly No.3 - in compensation for losing Frawley.
"We’re not quite sure what we’ll get compensation for Frawley, but we suspect it to be quite high," Goodwin said.
Goodwin confirmed the Demons would consider recruiting Adelaide midfielder Patrick Dangerfield but only if the 24-year-old had an interest in joining the club.
"We’re certainly open to anyone coming to the footy club, especially of ‘Patty’s’ talent," he said.
"At the end of the day, those people need to want to come to the Melbourne Football Club for the right reasons.
"They need to be able to see a vision moving forward and a clear direction of the footy club.
"If players of Patty’s calibre were keen on that, then we’re certainly very open to the idea of trying to get someone in over the free agency period at some stage over the next few years."
