GOLD Coast sent a group of its younger players to meet with NRL champions Melbourne Storm earlier this month in a bid to expose the Suns to the club's famed culture.
In the lead up to the Suns' round 16 game with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, Gold Coast had a dozen players head to Melbourne to get an insight into the Storm as part of their personal development programs.
Some of the players, including injured pair Brayden Fiorini and Ben Ainsworth, also caught up with Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury and Hawthorn star Shaun Burgoyne during the visit.
Suns chief executive Mark Evans told AFL.com.au the club was always looking for ways to expand the learnings of its players.
"We've done it a couple of times during the year but on this occasion they caught up with the Melbourne Storm and went to a Storm game. Then they caught up with Burgoyne and Pendlebury," Evans said.
"It was more to take them out of Queensland and involve them with other sports people about how they went about it and their journey."
The Storm won last year's NRL premiership and are considered a strong chance to go back-to-back as they sit second on the ladder this season.
They have also managed to be successful over a long period in Victoria, a foreign NRL market, and Evans said that was part of the appeal in organising the catch up.
"We have some connections here and other teams and sportspeople come to town. You're almost just using your own contacts to give young players a chance to learn and hear from others," Evans said.
"It's easier in Queensland cricket and rugby league but to be able to look at the Storm, who have done pretty well in a non-traditional market for them, was interesting for us."
The Suns have won just three games this season and sit second last on the ladder. Their losing streak stretched to 11 games on the weekend with a 44-point defeat to Essendon at Metricon Stadium.
