ADELAIDE veteran Scott Thompson has made it through his first competitive hit-out of the year, playing three quarters of the club's SANFL trial against West Adelaide.
Thompson's pre-season was hampered by knee surgery and then hamstring injuries and he was overlooked for the club's AFL season opener against North Melbourne on Sunday.
The 32-year-old collected 23 disposals and six clearances in what was a solid trial at Richmond Oval.
As planned prior to the game, he sat out most of the final term.
The match was also Matt Crouch's second trial and his first full game since recovering from a pre-season ankle injury.
The inside midfielder is a cut above SANFL level and dominated with 34 possessions, six marks and a classy snapped goal after intercepting a kick-in.
James Podsiadly, snubbed for senior selection, spent the entire game as the side's defensive general and took the bulk of the kick-ins.
The 33-year-old took some strong marks and looked in fine touch as he managed 17 disposals, four rebound 50s and seven marks.
The club's prized No.12 pick at last year's NAB AFL Draft, Jake Lever, played his first game since returning from a knee reconstruction, and attacked the ball with impressive intensity.
Lever was courageous at ground level and in the air to finish with five tackles and 10 disposals.
Mitch Grigg shone in the first half before joining most of his Adelaide teammates in the grandstand in the second.
He had 14 possessions and a goal at the main break.
The Crows lost the game by 20 points – but recorded no injuries – and will play North Adelaide next week in the opening round.
