Victoria Country and Victoria Metro have announced boys squads to take part in summer training hubs to be held across December and January.

The squads will take part in two high-performance training camps over the summer months to further assist players in their preparation for the 2024 Coates Talent League season.

Players involved in the summer training hubs will participate in football and wellbeing programs and will be provided with individual development plans.

All players selected in the summer training hub squads are aged 16 or 17 and will be eligible for selection for the 2024 AFL National Championships U18 Boys.

Victoria Country and Victoria Metro will conduct trial matches in April ahead of the National Championships, with additional players to be added to both squads for the trial games.

VICTORIA COUNTRY

The first camp for the Victoria Country boys squad will be held on December 18-19 at The Hangar, home of the Essendon Football Club. The second camp will be conducted at Federation University Ballarat from January 21-23.

The Victoria Country squad features representatives from each of the six Coates Talent League country programs – Bendigo Pioneers, Dandenong Stingrays, Geelong Falcons, Gippsland Power, GWV Rebels and Murray Bushrangers.

Among those selected are 2024 AFL National Academy representatives Archer Day-Wicks, Jonty Faull, Sam Lalor, Harvey Langford, Xavier Lindsay, Noah Mraz and Finn O’Sullivan.

The squad also includes twin brothers Jack and Matt Whitlock, along with Willem Duursma who is the younger brother of AFL players Xavier and Zane and AFLW player Yasmin.

Paul Corrigan will again serve as head coach of the Victoria Country boys team.

VICTORIA METRO

Victoria Metro will conduct its first training camp at The Hangar from December 19-20. A second camp will be held at Deakin University Geelong in early in 2024, with details to be confirmed shortly.

The Victoria Metro squad consists of players from the six Coates Talent League metro programs – Calder Cannons, Eastern Ranges, Northern Knights, Oakleigh Chargers, Sandringham Dragons and Western Jets.

Seven members of the 2024 AFL National Academy will take part in the Victoria Metro summer training hub, including Levi Ashcroft, Tom Gross, Christian Moraes, Harry O’Farrell, Josh Smillie, Jagga Smith and Luke Trainor.

The squad also features Jack Dalton, Lachy Dovaston, Louis Emmett, Oliver Greeves and Archie Ludowyke who were selected in this year’s AFL National Development Championships U16 Boys All Australian team.

Rob Harding will continue as head coach of the Victoria Metro boys team.
