HAWTHORN president Andrew Newbold believes the proposed new facility at Dingley could secure the club for the next 100 years.

The Hawks have lodged their planning application for their new headquarters with the City of Kingston, which will replace Waverley Park (their base since the move from Glenferrie Oval in 2006).

Plans call for two full-sized playing ovals, a smaller third oval, a soccer pitch and a separate area for goalkicking practice.

The Hawks have another 12 months to complete their 'due diligence’ of the land before making the final purchase. It is anticipated that it could be up to five years before the move takes place.

Writing to members in the latest edition of 'Hawk Talk', Newbold said the Hawks were in the middle of the due-diligence stage after their conditional purchase of the 28-hectare site earlier this year.

"If we proceed with the purchase, which we intend to do subject to a clean bill of health on a few fronts, it will arguably be the biggest decision ever taken by the club in its history.

"If we can deliver on our vision for our new facility at Dingley, we will future proof this club for the next 100 years.

"We aspire to be the most professional sporting club in Australia. Fulfilling our ambition in building a facility of this nature will certainly go a long way in achieving our goal and reinforcing Hawthorn as the destination club."
