GARY Ablett is over his injuries and will play in the midfield against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, says Suns coach Rodney Eade.
By his own impossibly high standards, Ablett has had an indifferent start to 2016 as he battled both foot and calf niggles.
But after spending time at half-forward recently, Eade said his captain has trained strongly this week and is in a positive frame of mind to take on the Giants.
"He'll play in the midfield," Eade said.
"He's been up and about at training. Most Tuesdays he hasn’t trained, but this Tuesday he trained.
"Indications are he's got over any humps as far as his body … he's certainly in a positive light this week."
Ablett has endured a shoulder reconstruction and knee surgery in the past two years, but Eade said the shoulder no longer hindered him.
"I don't know why people keep mentioning that, it's been nearly two years.
"He just got a couple of new knocks this year and a few niggles he's carried in.
"His expectations are going to be as a captain more than as a player from our point of view.
"He set such a high bar compared to mere mortals in the competition, he's being judged against that."
Ablett has averaged 27 disposals and six tackles through the first seven rounds.
Eade said the Suns would likely make six changes to play the Giants, with four forced through injury.
He said they needed to dig deeper after being thumped by Geelong and Melbourne in the past fortnight.
"We've got to hang in games for longer and persevere and persist. That's what we've spoken about," he said.
"We're going there to win the game."
