Other Incidents Assessed:
The match day charge laid against the Brisbane Lions’ Mitch Robinson for engaging in rough conduct against the Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood was assessed. The ball was bounced and Selwood got a quick kick away from the contest as his opponent Robinson came in to bump him. A free kick was paid at the time for the high contact. It was the view of the panel there was insufficient force in the high contact to constitute a report. No further action was taken.
Contact between Collingwood’s Levi Greenwood and St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt from the second quarter of Saturday’s game was assessed. The panel said that the ball was loose in St Kilda’s forward line with Riewoldt and St Kilda’s Tom Hickey moving towards the ball. Greenwood was approaching the two St Kilda players to contest the ball. Riewoldt bent down to collect the ball with Hickey immediately next to him, and Riewoldt took the ball with his head down. As Greenwood approached to tackle, Riewoldt was unable to turn away due to the presence of Hickey on his right, who pushed his St Kilda teammate back towards the Collingwood player’s tackle. High contact was made in the tackle with a free kick paid at the time for the infringement. Having spoken to both umpires who were near the incident on match day, it was the view of the panel that Greenwood was seeking to tackle and the high contact was caused by circumstances outside the control of the Collingwood player. No further action was taken.
