GEELONG was the clear winner in the recent NAB AFL Trade Period, according to fans.

The Cats secured Adelaide superstar Patrick Dangerfield, Carlton swingman Lachie Henderson, Eagle midfielder Scott Selwood and Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith during a busy post-season, clearly building up for another premiership assault.

In a poll on AFL.com.au, a whopping 43 per cent of respondents voted for the Cats as the best-performed club from the trade period, which concluded last Thursday.

As of 3pm on Sunday, close to 54,000 fans had voted in the poll, in which 10 clubs were represented.

Ten things we learned from the trade period

Behind Geelong, fans nominated Collingwood as the second-best club through the trade period, with the Magpies winning 25 per cent of the votes after picking up young midfielders Adam Treloar (GWS), James Aish (Brisbane Lions) and Demon utility Jeremy Howe.

Essendon (9 per cent), and Melbourne (7 per cent) and West Coast (7 per cent) were the next-best backed clubs.

AFL.com.au trade experts Nick Bowen and Peter Ryan also nominated Geelong as the club that had taken the honours in the player exchange period.

In their club-by-club analysis published on Saturday, Geelong was given the highest rating, followed by Melbourne, Essendon, Collingwood and Adelaide.
