Winged Eagles Brett Jones and Sam Butler dropped in at the Subiaco Hungry Jack's restaurant this afternoon to launch special recycling bins, just in time for Keep Australia Beautiful Week which runs from August 23 to 29.

Butler said the club was proud to support the initiative and encouraged footy fans to recycle whenever possible.

“Recycling is one of the easiest ways we can help the environment,” Butler said.

“It’s really important that all Western Australians take responsibility for looking after our environment. If you have an empty drink container or some paper to throw away, look out for a recycling bin or take it home for recycling,” he said.

Keep Australia Beautiful WA Chair Mel Hay said the focus during Keep Australia Beautiful Week was on recycling and the need to step up recycling efforts.

“Australians produce a total of 43.5 million tonnes of waste each year and just over half of that is being recycled,” he said

“So there is plenty of room for improvement, particularly when it comes to out-and-about recycling.

“We are encouraging people who are out-and-about to look for recycling facilities or take their rubbish home with them to dispose of in their household recycling.”

During Keep Australia Beautiful Week, selected Hungry Jack’s restaurants nationally will be encouraging their customers to recycle.

With the support of Coca-Cola Amatil, Hungry Jack’s restaurants in Tuart Hill, Canningvale, Spearwood and Subiaco will be introducing beverage container recycling trials so customers can recycle empty bottles and cans.
