WEST Coast midfielder Luke Shuey has been rewarded for his finest season at AFL level by claiming his first John Worsfold Medal.
The dynamic midfielder finished 11 votes clear of Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy and 17 votes clear of last year's winner Andrew Gaff.
Matt Priddis finished fourth, the seventh time in eight years he's finished in the top-five. Skipper Shannon Hurn finished fifth.
Shuey was shocked when he received the medal.
"I'm speechless, really. I really don't know what to say," Shuey said.
"I'm so humbled to win this award for a couple of reasons. One, it's named in honour of a club legend who I was privileged enough to play under for five years in Woosha. But two, to win this amongst the calibre of guys I play with, particularly these four, who I look up to and idolise every week."
Under the voting system, five members of the match committee give the players a score out of three, meaning a player can poll between 1-15 votes in any given game.
Shuey, 26, polled 157 votes after averaging 25 disposals and kicking 12 goals in 23 games. He led the club for clearances and was second in contested possessions.
Shuey was named in the All Australian 40-man squad alongside Kennedy, Gaff and Jeremy McGovern, but he missed out on the final 22, while Kennedy and McGovern made the team.
He only polled 10 Brownlow votes compared to Gaff's 21. Kennedy and Priddis each polled 17.
Shuey also claimed the Chris Mainwaring Medal as the best clubman. He said the Mainwaring Medal was arguably more prestigious among the Eagles players than the best-and-fairest award.
Gaff was named player of the finals for his 35 disposals in the losing elimination final against the Western Bulldogs.
Young key defender, and NAB Rising Star nominee, Tom Barrass was named Rookie of the Year. Kennedy was honoured for his charity work in the community award.
The club also honoured retired duo Xavier Ellis and Patrick McGinnity during the night as well as new playing life members Kennedy, Sam Butler, Will Schofield and Chris Masten. The Eagles inducted three non-playing life members in Neil Hamilton (former chairman), Denis McInerney (former No.1 ticket holder) and Mick Moylan (recruiter).
There was a special presentation to outgoing chairman Alan Cransberg who has served the maximum nine-year term on the Eagles' board. Deputy chairman Russell Gibbs is set to take over as chairman.
