GOLD Coast is on track to re-sign one of its brightest young stars, with the club in advanced contract talks with third-year defender Kade Kolodjashnij.

Kolodjashnij is due to come out of contract at the end of this season, but AFL.com.au understands his manager Anthony McConville and Gold Coast are negotiating a two-year extension that would bind the Tasmanian to Metricon Stadium until the end of 2018.

McConville met with the Suns on Monday to continue those negotiations and it's believed the talks were very positive.

Provided no late sticking points emerge, 2013's No.5 draft pick could sign a new deal soon.

The Suns are also close to re-signing Peter Wright, with the Victorian tall set to recommit until the end of 2017.

It was reported last week the Suns were keen to re-sign Wright on a new two-year deal, but 2014's No.8 draft pick was leaning towards a shorter deal.

AFL.com.au understands the parties are nearing agreement on a new one-year deal that will kick in once Wright's initial two-year contract expires at the end of this season.

Kolodjashnij was one of the biggest positives to emerge from the Suns' tough 2015.

In just his second season, the defender was one of only two Suns to play all 22 games, averaged 22 possessions and finished a close runner-up to Tom Lynch in Gold Coast's best and fairest award.

It followed Kolodjashnij's outstanding debut season in 2014, when he averaged 17 possessions in 18 games at 75 per cent efficiency to finish fifth in the NAB AFL Rising Star award.

The left-footer was the Suns' primary counter-attacker last season, finishing sixth in the AFL for rebound 50s (99 at an average 4.5 a game).

Wright played three games in his first AFL season last year, kicking a goal in his debut against the Sydney Swans in round 10.

At 203cm, the forward/ruckman remains a work in progress, but his dominant performances in the NEAFL last year against mature opponents underlined his potential.

Spearhead Charlie Dixon's departure to Port Adelaide in last October's trade period will likely see Wright enjoy more opportunities inside the Suns' forward 50 this season.
