SOUTH Australian bragging rights are on the line when Adelaide and Port Adelaide open round eight with a Showdown on Thursday night at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide brushed aside a listless North Melbourne last week to breathe life into its campaign, but with a 2-5 record, the Crows will have more than just bragging rights on the line against their crosstown rival.

The Crows will be buoyed by the fact they won both clashes against the Power convincingly last season, while the unpredictable nature of the Showdown means a third consecutive victory would hardly be an upset.

Port Adelaide (5-2) was able to hold St Kilda at arm's length for a victory last round, but it came at a cost with injuries to key players.

The Power will have little time to lick their wounds with their biggest rivals up next as Ken Hinkley's outfit looks to prove it can step up as the stakes rise.

The match will give Adelaide fans a chance to farewell club great Rory Sloane, after the 34-year-old announced his retirement on Monday morning.

Captain Connor Rozee has been named for Port Adelaide despite a hamstring worry last week, with Jeremy Finlayson not selected after serving a three-match ban for a homophobic slur. Aliir Aliir and Sam Powell-Pepper are both out through injury, with Ryan Burton and Jed McEntee in to replace them.

For the Crows, No.8 draft pick Dan Curtin will make his debut alongside the recalled Jordon Butts and Brodie Smith, while Will Hamill, James Borlase and Luke Pedlar are out.
