ESSENDON vice-captain Andrew McGrath has turned his back on free-agency to sign a six-year contract extension as flagged on AFL.com.au’s Gettable on April 17th, tying him to the club until the end of 2030.

The 25-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, but says he is keen to remain a one-club player and achieve success at the Bombers.

McGrath has played 141 games since being snared by Essendon with pick No.1 at the 2016 National Draft, and believes bigger and better things are to come under coach Brad Scott.

"I am super excited to commit to the football club long term," McGrath said in a statement.

"Essendon showed belief and trust in me as an 18-year-old, and I am extremely grateful to be a one-club player.
