FOR THE first time in four years, Hawthorn's net operating profit has dropped below $3 million, with the club recording a $2.57 million windfall for season 2016.
It is the 10th year in a row the Hawks have recorded a seven-figure profit, however they are down on last year's figure of $3.33 million.
Hawthorn recorded a gross revenue of $69.7 million in 2016, with $52.8 million of that attributed to the club, while the remaining $17 million came from the Hawks' pokies venues in Waverley Gardens and Caroline Springs.
In what was a successful year for the club off the field, the Hawks also posted a record membership tally for the 10th consecutive season of 75,351.
President Richard Garvey said the club's sound financial position was a result of the sustainable business model it has in place.
"As a club we are extremely fortunate to have the support of our loyal members and supporters, corporate partners and a united board and administration," Garvey said.
"This year we broke the club’s membership record for the tenth consecutive season, which is a significant achievement and reinforces the incredible support and passion we receive from our fans.
"We also finished first on the AFL membership ladder, ahead of Collingwood and Richmond, which is an outstanding feat.
"This result would not be possible without the support of our 9,249 Tasmanian members, the highest Tasmanian membership number we have ever achieved.
"Our goal from the club’s five-year business plan of ‘financial strength and independence’ continues to be delivered, with our consolidated net assets reaching in excess of $41m in 2016."
Hawthorn also made a total of $1.3 million in AFL equalisation payments.
