UPDATE: VICTORIAN police are investigating an incident of "suspicious betting activity" on last year's NAB AFL Rising Star award, after a referral from the AFL.
The League's integrity unit wrapped up its own investigation in October, and the matter has been in the hands of police since.
Brisbane Lion Lewis Taylor won the award by one vote from Western Bulldogs sensation Marcus Bontempelli.
"The AFL’s Integrity Unit investigated irregular betting on the 2014 NAB Rising Star Award and referred the outcome of their investigation to Victoria Police on October 9, 2014," an AFL spokesperson said.
"This investigation remains a police matter and as such the AFL will make no further comment."
It has been reported that irregular activity potentially involved bets - made by a premiership player and commentator - on last year’s NAB AFL Rising Star award.
The "suspicious betting activity" is reported to have occurred last year, a police spokesperson told AFL.com.au.
"As this investigation is ongoing we are not in a position to provide further comment," the spokesperson said.
AFL.com.au has chosen not to name the former player under investigation at this time.
All AFL and club staff, players, coaches and officials are not permitted to bet on anything related to football.
Media commentators and journalists are allowed to bet on games and awards.
