The AFL advises that Western Bulldogs’ listed player Jack Redpath will not be available for selection at AFL or VFL level this weekend.
Redpath was suspended for three matches after round 21 last season, ruling him ineligible for the club’s remaining two matches of the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and last week’s opening round game v the GWS Giants.
Redpath was chosen to play in last week’s VFL state league practice game, when his suspension rendered him ineligible to play at any level on any weekend when his AFL suspension was applicable.
The AFL has therefore determined that his suspension was not completed as required last weekend, and the final match of his three-game penalty will now be served this weekend.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said the club would not face any further sanction beyond Redpath’s ineligibility for this weekend, as the club co-operated fully with the AFL’s enquiries in this matter and it was determined the breach was inadvertent with the club having the belief he could play in a practice match, that was not for premiership points, at state league level.
