SYDNEY has been informed its star small forward Tom Papley wants to be traded to Carlton.

However, AFL.com.au understands the Swans intend to hold Papley, who is contracted until 2023, to his existing deal in the Harbour City.

After a standard exit meeting following the Swans’ season finished, it is believed Papley indicated his wish to move back to Victoria last week before heading to Europe for holidays.

Papley also had interest from North Melbourne, but has settled on Carlton whose offer is understood to be around $550-650,000 per season.

While the Swans have all intentions to keep Papley, its stance could change if they get the green light from Essendon forward Joe Daniher who is weighing up a move north.

Papley, who this year triggered an extension at the Swans, enjoyed a career-best season and kicked 37 goals from 22 games.

The former Gippsland Power forward has close friends at the Blues including ex-Swan Nic Newman, while former Swans defender Alex Johnson is involved in the Blues’ VFL program.

Papley has told the Swans his reason to move home are family-based, with his girlfriend also from Victoria.

It comes as the Swans also prepare to lose speedster Zak Jones after requesting a trade - St Kilda his most likely destination.
