GOLD Coast fans finally have something to get excited about with Izak Rankine set to return from hamstring problems on Saturday.

The No.3 draft pick just needs to navigate training this week to be selected in the Suns' NEAFL team to play Sydney in Blacktown.

It's a big moment for the highly-touted 19-year-old who hasn't played since the second JLT Series match, coincidentally against the Swans in Lismore, when he first injured the hamstring.

Then, on the cusp of a return in early May, Rankine re-aggravated the problem and has been in rehab since.

Gold Coast co-captain David Swallow said Rankine's impending return had the whole club excited.

"We can't wait to have him back," Swallow said.

"We only had a small snippet of it (his ability) but we know he's got a lot of attributes and can't wait to have him out there and see what he can do."

Vice-captains Touk Miller and Pearce Hanley have both overcome quad problems and are expected to play for the senior team against the Swans at the SCG.

Swallow said the returning players would add "that bit of polish" the Suns had lacked in recent weeks.

Gold Coast sprung the surprise of the season with its upset over Sydney last year, and Swallow said they were hoping for a repeat after the bye.

"That'd be perfect if that eventuates," he said.

"We know they're a very proud club and their form is starting to build so we're expecting a tough contest on Saturday."
