All the teams for Week One of the rebel VFLW Finals Series.

Port Melbourne’s rebel VFLW premiership defence has taken a major hit as it prepares for a do-or-die elimination final against Box Hill Hawks at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday.

Star midfielder Ava Seton, the club’s gun Queensland recruit who was shaping as a Lambert-Pearce Medal contender, will miss after being suspended for one match for rough conduct in last week’s thrilling draw with the Hawks at ETU Stadium.

The Borough will have to replace the 20-year-old star who lined up in every game this season, averaging 18.6 disposals (12.4 contested), 5.6 clearances and 9.1 tackles while also kicking six goals.

The reigning premiers will also be without Bella Clarke for the clash after she suffered an ankle injury early last week, with former Rohenna Young Medal runner up Jessie Williams earning a recall to add goalscoring power, while first-year player Rachael Slater has also been included for just her third game of the year.

Box Hill Hawks have made one change, recalling Jade Wise in place of Erin Woodford.

The Hawks were unable to recall dangerous forward Caitlin Thorne, who was picked up by Geelong’s AFLW squad last week and has headed down the highway. The Suns Academy graduate, whose marking strength has provided the Hawks with a great link-up entering attacking 50, will leave a significant hole to be filled.

Minor premier Williamstown will have to chase its maiden finals victory and further without its best defender after star back Gabby Biedenweg-Webster landed a second AFLW opportunity with Fremantle this week.

The 26-year-old, who was set to play her 50th VFLW game during the finals, has been a rock in defence since returning to the Seagulls this year from her first AFLW stint with Gold Coast – averaging 9.3 disposals and 3.9 rebounds, but her opponents have been basically unable to get their hands on the footy when she was in the area.

Chasing an 11th week in a row without defeat in Sunday’s qualifying final against Western Bulldogs at DSV Stadium, Williamstown recalled Cat O’Bryan and Brittney Gray after they were rested against Collingwood in Round 14, while the Bulldogs have named an unchanged team for the first time this season.

North Melbourne has recalled former Swans AFLW ruck Kate Reynolds alongside Elisha King and Paige Ryan for its rebel VFLW finals debut as it prepares to take on playoffs specialist Essendon at Arden Street Oval on Saturday, with Sarah King, Annabel Scott and Mackie Sutcliffe being the unfortunate trio to miss out.

The Kangaroos smashed the Bombers by 66 points last month, but finals are a whole new ball game and while the Roos haven’t played one yet, Essendon has won a flag and made two preliminary finals in the past three years.

The Bombers brought back Emily Tassiopoulos and Marnie Robinson for the clash in place of the unlucky Olivia Manfre, who kicked two goals against Geelong, and last week’s club debutant Karly McNiece.

All matches in the 2024 rebel VFLW season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.
