AFTER being dropped to the reserves for one week, Gold Coast midfielder Aaron Hall will return to the Suns' senior team to play Hawthorn on Sunday.

Hall was axed for the Suns' round 12 loss against Richmond before their bye, but went back to the NEAFL and starred with 30 disposals and eight tackles.

Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft confirmed to AFL.com.au that the prolific midfielder had done enough to earn a recall to play the Hawks in Launceston.

"He did really well. He went back and worked on the things he needed to," Ashcroft said.

"Aaron responded in the way his teammates and coaches liked. It's a big tick for him."

In further good news for the Suns, star midfielder Jaeger O'Meara is nearing a return almost two years since his last senior match.

O'Meara, who ruptured his patella tendon in a NEAFL practice match last April, will complete all training sessions with teammates this week for the first time since injuring the knee.

While there is still no exact date set for O’Meara to resume playing, Ashcroft said it was getting closer.

"It's hard to lock in a date with Jaeger and we're not going to," he said.

"He's progressing this week to doing everything, which is the final stage of what he needs to do.

"The medicos and specialists he's seen will give their approval, and then it comes down to the confidence and mental side from Jaeger's point of view.

"We're in no rush."

Fellow midfielder David Swallow, who has also not played this year, got some good news from his surgeon last week and has progressed from running on the Alter G treadmill to running on harder surfaces.

Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion), Jesse Lonergan (illness) and Sean Lemmens (hamstring) are all unlikely to play the Hawks, while Gold Coast should regain the services of running defender Adam Saad, who has missed the past four matches with a hamstring injury.
