FOUR of Fremantle's draftees hail from Geelong, Adelaide, Bacchus Marsh and Narrandera and will bring some diversity to a young playing group.

While No. 24 NAB AFL Draft selection Nick Suban and pick 68 Tim Ruffles both played TAC Cup football with North Ballarat, they are from Bacchus Marsh (north-west of Melbourne) and Narrandera (an hour from Wagga in NSW) respectively.

Ben Bucovaz was taken by Fremantle with pick No.56 from the Geelong Falcons, where he was coached by Garry Hocking, and Chris Hall was taken at No.77 from SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens, where he played eight senior games in 2008.

While Suban, Ruffles and Hall will begin training straight away and likely be ready to join in full training with the group in January, Bucovaz will have a delayed start to his Fremantle career.

The Geelong native is battling a hip complaint that is likely to need surgery but he is expected to be right to train early in the new year. While it's a slight setback, the utility player is still getting his head around being at Fremantle.

"I've had a bit of trouble with my hips over the past four or five months. We will re-assess that in a couple of weeks and see how we go with that," Bucovaz said.

"It's a big step waking up on Saturday morning and getting your name read out to go over to Western Australia to live the dream to play footy. It's a bit exciting and daunting."

There are big wraps on Vic Country and North Ballarat Rebels captain Suban as he arrives at Fremantle.

He's happy to be in WA, will look to bring leadership to the club in his first couple of years, and had some good advice from a local back home.

"It's pretty scary leaving home straight away, but it's great to get over here and to meet all the boys. I had no idea where I could end up, I just wanted to get picked. I'm quite happy to end up at Fremantle," Suban said.

"[Former Footscray champion] Dougy Hawkins lives in Bacchus Marsh as well and he gave me a bit of advice, so he was good help for me.

"I captained Vic Country and the Rebels this year, so I developed my leadership through the year and hopefully I can bring some to this club in the coming years."

Suban's North Ballarat teammate Ruffles proved his prowess in front of goals with five in the TAC Cup finals and is hoping to put on some bulk while joking that moving to Perth will make it easier for his father to watch him play.

"I don’t mind kicking a goal or two but hopefully I can push up into the midfield or on a wing so I can use my pace and leap," Ruffles said.

"I've said to dad that it's now a plane trip instead of a drive, so it should be a bit easier for him."

South Australian Hall has had no trouble making himself right at home in his new captain and fellow Eagles SANFL product Matthew Pavlich's home since arriving in Perth, but that’s not who he models his game on.

"I'm really happy to be here. Pav has been good with everything and has given me a lot of advice. He's house is pretty nice and I have the whole top storey to myself at the moment," Hall said.

"I've tried to model myself a bit around Dale Thomas. Not so much with the high marks but with finding space and taking players on to set up play."
