CARLTON youngster Jack Silvagni has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at the club until the end of 2018. 

The Silvagni name is synonymous with the Blues and the son of Stephen and grandson of Sergio will continue to wear the trademark navy blue long sleeves for at least two more seasons. 

Silvagni, 18, was a father-son selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft and made his long-awaited debut in round 15 against Collingwood at the MCG.

He played eight of the last nine games of the season and kicked seven goals, including three in round 21 against the Brisbane Lions.

Silvagni said he was keen to continue his development over the next couple of years.

"The coaches have been really clear on the areas of my game I need to continue to develop and I'm already looking forward to getting stuck into another pre-season with the rest of my teammates," Silvagni told carltonfc.com.au. 

Carlton's head of football Andrew McKay said the club was really pleased with Silvagni's progression in his first year. 

"Since arriving at the Blues, Jack has worked incredibly hard on the training track, his determination to improve as a player has been second to none," McKay said.

"He earned his spot in the senior side this year after consistent performances in the VFL, so we're pleased with his progress. 

"Jack knows he has a long way to go but every time he pulls on the guernsey you know he's going to give his all."
