Nine Lives-Geelong kicked off the 2010 season with its Season Launch Breakfast on Friday 19 February.

MC Felicity Harley (the wife of former Cats captain Tom Harley) welcomed 250 guests to the Fred Flanagan Room of Skilled Stadium before interviewing two past players who are now part of the Geelong Cats football department. Assistant coach Matt Egan and player development and conditioning assistant David Johnson spoke of their sporting careers. Matt told of his late entrance to football and how his tennis background helped him pick up some football skills. David spoke about his experience of being a listed player for Essendon and Geelong Cats through their premierships but never actually playing in a premiership match.

The 2010 captain Cameron Ling, leadership team member Joel Selwood, national recruiting manager Stephen Wells and player development manager Ron Watt made up the ‘share your journey’ panel. They each told of their memorable experiences at the club.

Cameron admitted he used to sit with his dad in the Ross Drew Stand at Kardinia Park when he was younger to watch the Cats and dreamed of playing for the team.

Both Cameron and Joel took guests through the last few minutes of the 2009 premiership and tried to explain the exhilarating feelings they experienced.

“It’s a blur. All you can remember is you see a teammate and you scream at him and hug him,” Joel said.

Cameron said he could not remember the last minute of the 2009 grand final or the minute after the final siren.

Auctioneer Phil Defegely provided some entertainment while auctioning off a 2010 team signed guernsey, gym memberships, pamper packages and jewellery packages.

The raffle and free business card draw provided guests with the opportunity to win some terrific items including a kitchen package, book voucher and a beauty hamper.
