OLLIE Wines will captain Port Adelaide for the first time after skipper Travis Boak was ruled out of Saturday's game against the Brisbane Lions with a hamstring injury.
The Power are hopeful Boak will only miss one week and will be available for the club's round seven clash with West Coast at Adelaide Oval.
Defenders Hamish Hartlett (quad) and Jack Hombsch (knee) will have fitness tests this week to see if they will be fit to face the Lions.
"Boaky's no good for this week, he's just got a minor hamstring injury so probably the week off for him," defender Jasper Pittard told AFL.com.au.
"Hamish will be a test later in the week and Hombsch trained today, so I think if he can get through another solid training session on Thursday, he'd be pretty good to go."
Wines, 22, will become one of the youngest captains in the Power's history since they entered the AFL in 1997.
The tough midfielder has been in outstanding form in the opening five games of the season.
He was runner-up in the Power's best and fairest last year and became the club's vice-captain leading into this season.
Power midfield manager Michael Voss has no doubt Wines will embrace the extra responsibility.
"I think he will be pretty excited by it," Voss said.
"He's had a great month, Ollie, he seems to be stepping his game up to the next level.
"The great thing about Ollie is he has such a great temperament, I don't think he will treat it any differently.
"If anything, the boys get a little bit excited for him and I know he will bring the energy for us."
After impressive form in the SANFL, Brendon Ah Chee is the leading contender to take Boak's spot in the side against the Lions.
