MELBOURNE is close to re-signing half-forward Alex Neal-Bullen for an extra two years.
The 23-year-old has been in and out of the Demons' side this season, playing only six games and last running out for the senior side in round nine before his recall to face Fremantle this week.
But the Demons are understood to be edging towards a new deal with Neal-Bullen which would keep him at the club until the end of 2021.
SHUFFLING THE DECK CHAIRS Melbourne's unusual mid-season coach shake-up
Neal-Bullen's contract with the Dees is due to expire at the end of this season.
He enjoyed a career-best season in 2018, playing 25 games for the Demons, averaging 17 disposals and booting 27 goals.
Although his form hasn't hit the same heights this year – he has averaging 11 disposals and kicking only three goals – the 65-gamer is considered a part of the club's future.
The Dees, who sit third last on the ladder, have most of their list tied up for next year.
Free agent and co-captain Nathan Jones is expected to stay, while Sam Frost, Billy Stretch and Jeff Garlett are among the other out-of-contract Dees.
