BRISBANE Lions reigning club champion Joel Patfull has extended his contract until at least the end of 2015.

Patfull, 28, joins fellow free agent Daniel Merrett in re-signing with the club in recent weeks.

The South Australian joined the Lions in 2005 after being delisted by Port Adelaide and has become one of the team's most dependable players.

His career highlight came last year, winning the Merrett-Murray Medal as the club's best and fairest player.

Patfull said it was an easy decision to re-sign.

"I've been with the Brisbane Lions for eight years now and this footy club is like home to me – we've got a great group of people here and a great culture, and it didn't even cross my mind to look anywhere else.

"I couldn't be more excited about the direction that our group is going in – we've got some amazingly talented young guys coming through in the team, and I can't wait to be a part of the success that I know is just around the corner for us."

Lions general manager of football operations Dean Warren said Patfull was an integral member of the team and the "epitome of a team player".
