Ling relinquishes role at North to focus on media career
Former Cats captain relinquishes role at North to focus on media career
CAMERON Ling will not continue in his role as a leadership consultant to North Melbourne next year as his television commitments with Channel 7 are set to expand in 2015.
Ling combined his media work with the role at North Melbourne and earned plaudits at the club for the direction he gave the club's leadership group during the season.
North Melbourne reached the preliminary final and look poised to challenge for a top four spot in 2015.
Kangaroos director of football Geoff Walsh told Fairfax that Ling's increasing television commitments meant the Geelong premiership captain needed to narrow his focus.
"He came to a bit of a fork in the road at the end of the footy season with some coaching options on the go, but the media stuff particularly will be ramping up," Walsh said.
"I think he's decided he'll give that a good crack for a couple of years and see where he wants to go in a footy sense from there, but it's certainly going to squeeze him out time-wise."
Ling made a decision to pursue his television career rather than step full-time into coaching after receiving several offers late in the season to join other AFL clubs.
North Melbourne is considering its coaching structure for 2015 but would like an external consultant to continue in Ling's former role.
