REIGNING West Coast club champion Luke Shuey is all but certain to finish his career as a one-club player after inking a four-year contract extension.
The star Victorian midfielder was already signed up until the end of next season, but has put pen to paper on a new deal locking him away until 2022.
"It’s really good to get the deal done. I’m super-pumped to sign-on with the footy club," Shuey said.
"Coming through the ranks as a younger player, you see guys at 26 or 27 sign four or five year-deals and you look on and think 'Geez, they’re old'. That’s me now.
"I'm getting to the back-half of my career, but hopefully we’ve still got plenty of success ahead and some exciting years coming up."
Shuey, 27, is viewed as a future Eagles skipper and was elevated to joint vice-captain at the start of this year.
He was named in the 40-man All Australian squad last year, and has finished in the top five of the John Worsfold Medal four times in the past six seasons.
Shuey's explosiveness from stoppages is unmatched at West Coast and few Eagles are as consistent at home or interstate.
The 145-gamer is averaging 28.4 disposals per game – 11.2 contested - this season and has only dropped below 26 touches in a match once.
Shuey's contract extension is one of the longest in Eagles history and shows the esteem in which he is held at West Coast.
"To have someone of Luke’s standing and character effectively commit to the club for the remainder of his career is a wonderful outcome for all parties," general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.
"The long-term commitment we are making to Luke is an indication of the club’s regard for him as a person, a player and a leader.
"We are delighted that he will be a part of our football club for at least the next five years as we see him as an integral part of the things we would like to achieve in that time."
