All the teams for Round 19 in the Smithy’s VFL.

Todd Goldstein and Peter Wright.

You would be hard pressed to find two higher profile (and taller) debutants in the same game than the star pair who have been named to line up in Essendon’s Smithy’s VFL clash with the Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval on Saturday.

Goldstein, 36, and Wright, 27, will play their first VFL games for the Bombers, with the former having most recently played two games for North Melbourne last year and the latter having not played at State league level since he was at Gold Coast.

They’ll share a field with impressive Moama youngster Jobe Shanahan, who celebrates his 18th birthday today with the chance to sell himself to recruiters after strong form for Bendigo Pioneers and Victoria Country this year.

Jack Jedwab and Tom Toma were surprisingly omitted after their starring roles in last week’s win.

The Bullants also have a debutant, with Old Xaverian Kane Emery rewarded for his Oakleigh Chargers’ efforts with a debut as one of seven changes, six of them unforced.

Werribee has suffered three more injury hits ahead of its standalone blockbuster against Southport at Avalon Airport Oval.

In-form half-forward Jack Riding and Jaelen Pavlidis have both been ruled out for at least three weeks with injury and Jake Smith needed a week off with soreness.

The Tigers have recalled former Shark Michael Selsby and Matt Keast returns from his own injury, with former Werribee star Wylie Buzza making a surprise recovery from what was thought to be a season-ending injury to slot back into the Sharks’ forward line.

Inside-mid Brock Aston is also back with defender Rhys Clark (foot) and forward Ryan Banks-Smith (illness) sidelined.

Injuries have hit Williamstown hard ahead of its must-win game against North Melbourne at DSV Stadium on Sunday, with skipper Cam Polson out through illness and defenders Aiden Bonar and Harry Minton-Connell’s injuries recurring and Mitch Cox succumbing to concussion.

Blake Coleman, Corey Rich and Jovan Petric return, however, with Western Jets midfielder Lucca Grego to debut after averaging 28.2 disposals in the Coates Talent League this season.

Tyler Sellers and Charlie Lazzaro return for the Kangaroos, but Nick Hodgson and Bigoa Nyuon have been ruled out with their dislocated shoulders from last week’s loss to Geelong.

GWS midfielder Marc Sheather returns from injury for the Giants’ clash with Box Hill Hawks at Blacktown International Sports Park on Sunday.

Sheather has missed a month with a knee injury but his return will be a big boost for a Giants team that needs to win to stay in the finals race, with Belconnen big man Cooper Bell to make his debut, replacing promoted pair Max Gruzewski and Ryan Angwin.

The Giants come up against a Hawks team boosted by the returns of Finn Maginness and Chad Wingard.

Gold Coast has copped two significant injury blows for its clash with Coburg at People First Stadium on Saturday, with captain James Tsitas ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious quad injury and star full-back Caleb Graham to miss up to two months with a knee problem.

Former AFL star James Frawley and ex-Brisbane Lion Zac O’Brien add significant experience alongside AFL omission Tommy Berry and star youngster Jake Rogers, with Alex Sexton promoted again following his five-goal effort last week and Brayden Fiorini also going up.

Coburg has a club debutant in Dylan Laurie, 21, who played 15 games the Northern Bullants last year before crossing to Piranha Park in 2024.

The Lions also regain their hero of a fortnight ago in Ryan Sturgess alongside Kyle Weightman, with exciting young tall Caleb Ernst also forcing his way back in.

Boom Lions Academy youngster Sam Marshall will get another taste of VFL footy ahead of his likely arrival on the AFL list at the end of the year as Brisbane Lions take on Carlton at IKON Park on Saturday.

Irish speedster Conor McKenna has been dropped from the AFL and will take his place, with Kyle Dunkley (ankle) to miss a week.

Liam McMahon all-but dropped out of Frosty Miller Medal but he will provide a boost as he returns from suspension for the Blues alongside demoted Jack Carroll, defenders Lachie Cowan and Caleb Marchbank and first-year player Billy Wilson.

However, Marc Pittonet, Brodie Kemp and Jack Martin are all elevated to the AFL team, while skipper Lachie Young and ball magnet Will Hayes are also out.

Josh Green returns from a shoulder injury to play his 50th NEAFL/VFL game in Port Melbourne’s trip to Kinetic Stadium to take on Frankston on Friday night, a clash which will celebrate the 150th match of dual VFL premiership player Anthony Anastasio.

Green will be joined by Guy Barnes in boosting a Borough team that has the chance to put a dent in the Dolphins’ finals hopes, with Oscar Roberts and Baker Smith being omitted.

Frankston has recalled key forwards Josh Butland and Harry Coe in place of Lachie Sharp and Will Kennedy.

All matches in the 2024 Smithy’s VFL and VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will broadcast select matches live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7plus nationally. This week’s broadcast match will be Williamstown vs North Melbourne.
