LUKE Hodge has indicated he wants to hold on to the Hawthorn captaincy.
There's been intense speculation this off-season that Hodge might be preparing to pass the baton to vice-captain Jordan Lewis, in a smooth transition.
However, speaking at Hawthorn's training camp on the Sunshine Coast, Hodge has publicly shown his hand, insisting he still has "the hunger" to lead the reigning premiers in their quest for a four-peat.
"I've really enjoyed being captain of the Hawthorn Football Club and it's still something that I am really keen to do," Hodge told News Corp.
"A lot has been taken from what I said at the end of the season, and the end of last season as well, that I'd do whatever is best for the footy club.
"But I've got the hunger to still be captain, I've still got the passion and it's a really good group to lead."
The Hawks arrived in Queensland on Friday for a 10-day training camp.
Hodge took over the Hawks captaincy from Sam Mitchell ahead of the 2011 season, leading the club to three consecutive premierships from 2013-15.
Lewis is considered the frontrunner to replace Hodge if a change is made, along with joint vice-captain Jarryd Roughead.
Hodge, 31, has played 271 games for the Hawks since making his debut in 2002.
