The Hyundai Lions Academy will be hosting three regional sessions over the next two weeks in Maroochydore, Hervey Bay and Toowoomba.

The Lions Academy is a talent pathway program run by the Brisbane Lions designed to identify talent in young up-and-coming Queenslanders and provide training to nurture players into the AFL system.

In 2011, approximately 120 players aged between 12 and 17 will participate in Hyundai Lions Academy programs with regional training centres planned for the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Wide Bay.

Academy Manager Luke Curran said that the Academy is the perfect tool for the Club’s future development of local players.

“Players are usually required to participate in the National Draft and could end up anywhere in the country,” Curran said.

“The Academy provides these players a pathway to stay in their home state and play for the Lions which is a big incentive.”

“The regional training sessions that we will be holding will be made up of those players we have identified as being potential future AFL superstars and we are really looking forward to getting stuck into training.”
