COLLINGWOOD premiership ruckman Darren Jolly is in doubt for the Magpies' clash with the Western Bulldogs this Sunday at the MCG as he struggles with a knee complaint.

Jolly, who missed the side's round four win over Richmond with a knee injury, trained indoors on Thursday and coach Mick Malthouse confirmed he was no certainty to face the Dogs.

"He's doubtful, I'll say that right now," Malthouse said.

"Whether we take him in again, we'll see. He's got a crook knee."

Jolly, who was replaced by ruckman Cameron Wood against the Tigers, returned against Essendon on Anzac Day and dominated the ruck, finishing with 34 hit-outs, seven clearances and a goal.

Bulldogs forward Barry Hall has been ruled out after injuring an ankle against Fremantle on Anzac Day, but Malthouse said the opposition spearhead's availability would not impact Collingwood's selection.

"We're not going to be forced to be picking sides around the opposition," the coach said.

"We will pick the side around their strategies more so than their personnel.

"Barry Hall doesn't play, that doesn't mean that we leave Chris Tarrant out, or Ben Reid out, or Nick Maxwell out, or Harry O'Brien out.

"It simply means that they'll have someone come in and replace him, if he's out, and we'll see what sort of player that is on match day."

Malthouse said recruit Andrew Krakouer, who was dropped for the Anzac Day blockbuster, would be considered this week, but not necessarily at the expense of last Monday's substitute, Brad Dick.
