The AFLW is proud to announce a new partnership today, welcoming Medibank as the ‘Official Health Partner of the AFLW’ for the next three years.
Through the partnership with Medibank, the AFLW reinforces its commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of AFLW players and the broader W community.
The partnership will see the delivery of the Medibank AFLW Health Series which will provide vital health education to players, coaches and medical staff, and research into sports injuries in partnership with La Trobe University through the Medibank Better Health Foundation.
AFLW supporters will also benefit from the partnership with health advocacy initiatives to be rolled out at select match days to engage with fans and better their health.
AFLW General Manager Emma Moore said the partnership with Medibank will continue to progress and ensure the NAB AFLW competition is an elite sport and the league champions health and wellbeing of the AFLW community.
“We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our AFLW players and community, and welcome Medibank to the team as we continue to understand, learn and respond to the unique health issues that face our W players,” Moore said.
“The partnership with Medibank will help us deliver key initiatives and increase awareness, research and support for specific health areas of the AFLW and its community.”
Medibank CEO David Koczkar said the exciting new partnership celebrates AFLW athletes and will help unlock their potential through the game.
"We are thrilled to partner with the AFLW and be part of a movement that celebrates the exceptional talent and dedication of these athletes. Australia is a sporting nation, and we recognise the important role sport plays in promoting physical and mental wellbeing as well as connecting communities around the country,” Koczkar said.
“AFLW players are breaking barriers and have been setting new standards for Australian Rules Football since the league’s inception. Through this partnership we will continue to challenge misconceptions and shine a light on the health challenges women in sport and general society face.”
The partnership was officially launched today at Marvel Stadium with former AFLW stars Erin Phillips and Moana Hope, and current Western Bulldogs players Isabella Grant and Ellie Blackburn. They were joined by the next generation – 20 junior girls aged five to nine years-old – who participated in a footy clinic and were encouraged to kick goals and strive to reach their potential alongside their AFLW idols.
The partnership between AFLW and Medibank marks a significant milestone in the journey towards investing in the future of AFLW and the health and wellbeing of its players and community.
