TRIPLE premiership Hawk Brian Lake has been released from custody in Japan without charge.
He’d been detained for six days after being arrested last weekend following an alleged alcohol-fuelled incident.
Lake had been playing in the AFL Asia competition in Osaka.
The 36-year-old has recently been in Fiji taking part as a contestant in the filming of reality television show Australian Survivor.
Lake's manager Marty Pask travelled to Japan to assist in his client's release.
In a statement issued on Friday, Pask said Lake will return home to Australia over the weekend.
"Brian was this afternoon released from custody without charge and will return home from Osaka to Australia over the weekend," the statement read.
"It’s obviously been a tough week for Brian, but he’s looking forward to returning home to see his loved ones.
"He’s grateful for the support and guidance he received throughout this process, in particular from his legal representation and the Australian Consulate.
"Brian will share his story when he’s ready, but we ask for his privacy to be respected in the meantime."
It's understood Lake was released after careful negotiations with local authorities, respectful to local customs and processes.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade had also provided consular assistance.
Under Japanese law Lake could have been held in custody for up to 23 days.
