GMHBA Stadium will join the MCG and Etihad Stadium in serving only mid-strength beer for night games in public areas of the ground following multiple acts of crowd violence this season

An ugly brawl occurred soon after Geelong backman Zach Tuohy slotted an after-the-siren goal to down Melbourne in round 18, while a man was glassed in round 10, when the Cats faced Carlton.

The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, Geelong and Victoria Police will continue to look at ways to make the venue safer for spectators.

"The primary objective of the Trust is to ensure the safety and security of all patrons at GMHBA Stadium," Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO Michael Brown told geelongcats.com.au.

"The venue has always been a wonderful environment to enjoy watching football with family and friends and we believe this adjustment to the serving of alcohol policy during night events is a positive step forward.

"We look forward to continuing our proactive work with the Geelong Cats and Victoria Police to reiterate anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."

Geelong boss Brian Cook said the measure should reduce the number of violent incidents.

"Every supporter and patron attending Cats games at GMHBA Stadium should be able to do so in an environment that fosters an entertaining and safe atmosphere," Cook said.

"For the most part that has always been the case. While there have been a small number of isolated incidents that make it difficult for the vast majority, we feel this step of reviewing the type of beer we serve at night games will further assist in making this a great place to come to the football."
