THE AFL is thrilled to announce that 7,456,274 fans have so far attended the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season to date ahead of this week's last round of the home and away season.
It is anticipated the all-time attendance record 7,475,146 will be surpassed at Friday night's MCG match between Melbourne and Collingwood.
Round 23, marked the 16th time this season we've seen more than 300,000 fans flock to stadiums. The most ever in a single season. The previous record was set in 2023, with 15 rounds recording more than 300,000 fans.
Round 23 saw the highest South Australia Showdown crowd in the past eight seasons (since round three, 2017). It also marked Port Adelaide's third highest all-time AFL home and away season crowd. It saw Gold Coast mark its highest home crowd v Melbourne in over a decade and a second highest ever against the Demons. Hawthorn continues to look towards a finals appearance marking their best home crowd against Richmond in nearly a decade (66,305, round 18, 2015).
As we look to round 24, Friday night's Melbourne v Collingwood clash at the MCG is tipped to bring our total attendance to more than 7.7 million across the season coinciding with Kids Go Free matches in Victoria for the entire Round 24.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said as we edge closer towards the end of the home and away season, fans are ready for a huge September.
"Whilst this will be the final weekend of the season for some clubs, the race to the final eight is as close as it has ever been, and we look forward to the thrilling crescendo on Sunday," Mr Dillon said.
"Season 2024 has been one of biggest in our games history - all-time record membership, largest broadcast and digital numbers on record, some of the closest footy ever, and now the all-time attendance record in our sights come Friday."
"On behalf of the AFL I want to thank all the fans who have engaged with our game so far this season and barracked for their club’s week in and week out."
